This Geordie beauty is not afraid of the spotlight being part of the world’s biggest girl- band Little Mix which in 2011, was the first girl group to win The X Factor UK.

Little Mix have been extremely successful, breaking the group record with the most Number 1’s on The Official Big Top 40 (Big Top 40, 2020) and to add to that, they have sold nearly 2 million concert tickets in total – crazy right?

Jade was born on 26 December 1992 in South Shields to both parents who are business managers, her mum (Norma) for a primary school which Jade herself actually attended, and her dad (James) at a community school.

JADE GROWING UP

Jade has always had a flair for performance, from the age of only 3 she attended Steps Dance and Fitness, until she was 15 and then later enrolled at college to study various courses. Devastatingly, throughout her time at school, Jade became a victim of racism stating, “I think because I was bullied in school because of the colour of my skin and for being Arab I wasn't very proud of who I was," the star also has said she had "constantly had this inner battle" of not knowing where she was fitted in. Currently, Jade has become a lot more confident from being in Little Mix, she has said she is now more education on race issues, but she is also "constantly learning" (Sky News, 2020).

PERSONAL LIFE

Jade is blissfully happy in her love life and is currently with Jordan Stephens, who was in the hip-hop duo of Rizzlekicks, the lovebirds met during the first lockdown in 2020. Jade spoke on the Jonathon Ross show on how she met Jordan, stating "It was through a friend. He messaged a friend of mine and said he was interested so I slid in the DMs. I'd been doing this for quite a while because I'd been single for a while and I kept getting pied left, right and centre and I thought 'Do you know what? I'll give it another go" (Smith, 2021). The couple attended to a Black Trans Lives Matter March together, Jade told her Instagram followers ‘This Pride and every Pride we must remember that it was Transgender Women of colour who initiated the Stonewall riots and helped to give the LGBTQIA movement the voice, platform and rights that they have today” (Metro, 2020).

BATTLING ANOREXIA

Through Jade’s teenage years, she struggled with the eating disorder of Anorexia. Jade battled this for five years, the star spoke about this on a podcast called BBC Sound’s Life Hacks stating “I obviously became very small… I used to wear a lot of baggy clothes to hide that” (BBC, 2019). Jade felt like she was ‘harbouring a horrible secret’ through this extremely hard time for her and admitted by finally opening up about it she felt like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders (BBC, 2019). After the podcast, Jade posted on social media “I really hope by sharing my story I was able to help both them and anyone listening to the podcast to further understand anorexia and see that recovery is absolutely possible” (BBC, 2019). Since being in Little Mix, Jade, alongside her former bandmate Jesy Nelson have spoken about body image in the hopes to raise awareness to their fans that they are beautiful regardless of their size.
